Steve Pilacik of Matsu Momiji Bonsai Nursery in Fuquay Varina, NC has been involved and teaching the art of bonsai for more than three decades. During that time he has traveled extensively presenting programs on bonsai for clubs and organizations throughout the United States. He is the author of a book on the care and cultivation of Japanese Black Pine and is popularly regarded as an authority on the subject. Steve has appeared before the BSC on several past occasions speaking about pines, but he is also an accomplished and knowledgeable teacher on many species. That’s why we thought we would let him try his hand at something different. Mr. Pilacik will present two programs on Saturday, July 14th. Both will focus on the Trident Maple (Acer bugerierum), a highly favored subject for bonsai training. He will begin at 10 a.m. with a styling demonstration on trident maple. There is no charge for this program and it is open to the public. In the afternoon Mr. Pilacik will conduct a workshop on trident maple using plant material personally grown at his nursery. These are well developed medium sized bonsai. This workshop will begin at 1 p.m. and is limited to 8 participants. It includes the plant material at a cost of $75 for non-members and $50 for members. Advance registration is required. Students must provide their own tools, wire and other equipment. Ceramic bonsai containers suitable for these trees will be available from the BLC at 50% off their retail price.
